Recently inaugurated, “SANTA MARIA” is placed in the centre of the historic area of Funchal.
“SANTA MARIA” is located at the charismatic Santa Maria street, home of the artistic project “The arT of oPEn doors”. The building sits in the heart of the Old Town within a 5 minute walk from the city centre and Funchal beautiful seafront. You'll find a bathing complex on the end of the street and an endless number of restaurants and bars where you can discover Madeira local and tradicional flavours. For extra convenience, there is public transportation available in the surroundings.
Set in a former elementary school, the building has been completely renovated, retaining its original architecture. A successful effort was made to recover the typical Madeirian box roofs and wood beams that now blend with the decoration of the site. The tall walls were maintained as well as some of the original tile and wooden floors.
Our team is always available to help, providing all kind of information and support you need to make your holidays in Madeira unique.
In the vicinity of "SANTA MARIA", there are many points of interest at short walking distances such as the Museum of Contemporary Art, Madeira Story Centre, the cable car to Monte, the Farmers' Market or "Avenida do Mar" - the main avenue that crosses Funchal city center. Don’t miss out on the many events that Funchal has to offer trough all the year such as: the Flower or the Atlantic Festival, the colourful Carnival or Christmas, the unique Réveillon or Funchal Jazz or even the Summer Madeirian parties - the locally famous "Arraiais".
